Wychwood

This new native broadleaf woodland will transform former grazed farmland into rich riparian habitat. It is an excellent option for individuals and organisations that don’t need to purchase carbon credits to support their sustainability strategy but still want to play a role in nature’s comeback.

Project highlights

About the woodland

Wychwood is a native broadleaf woodland near Broughton. The project will deliver valuable co-benefits, including enhanced biodiversity, improved water quality, greater habitat connectivity, and increased amenity value for the local area. Located within the Upper Tweeddale National Scenic Area, the woodland will also contribute to the region’s visual appeal and landscape character.

This site is part of our new sponsorship offering, designed to support smaller-scale woodlands that can’t justify the cost of Woodland Carbon Code certification. It enables businesses and individuals to fund high-impact woodland projects like Wychwood while fostering a meaningful connection with the land and those who manage it.

Formerly grazed farmland, much of the site lies within the floodplain of the upper River Tweed. Planting trees here will stabilise soil, improve water retention, and reduce flood risk.

The project also creates valuable riparian habitat, helping buffer watercourses from agricultural runoff and improving water quality. A burn running through the site joins the River Tweed SAC downstream, meaning Wychwood will support the health of this wider protected ecosystem.

FAQs

How do you ensure your sponsorship projects deliver on their impact objectives?

Quality assurance is crucial to avoid greenwashing and misuse of nature funding. With 55 years of combined experience, we've created guidelines to ensure projects achieve their impact goals:

Site visits to assess woodland health and stocking

We visit these woodlands during the establishment years to ensure proper management and tree planting. If development is unsatisfactory, we will work with the land manager to correct it.

Collaboration with trusted partners

We create high-integrity woodlands by collaborating with dedicated farmers, tenants, land managers, and foresters who have a proven track record of success.

Incentivisation through staggered payments

We incentivise effective woodland management by staggering payments, with the initial payment after planting and a second payment after a successful year-5 site visit, based on sponsorship sales.
