About the woodland
Fieldfare Wood is a small but highly impactful woodland creation project that will deliver many benefits to the local area. The project establishes a diverse mix of tree species, planted at varying densities throughout the site to maximise biodiversity gain and create variety in woodland structure. It links with existing woodland, with the majority of the planting located within the primary zone of the Native Woodland Habitat Network.
To ensure planting success in light of the local roe deer population, high-cost deer fencing has been installed - an essential but costly investment that enables successful tree establishment and gives the woodland the best chance of success.
Once established, the woodland will provide a range of benefits for local wildlife and the community. The diverse planting mix includes wetter areas and Scots pine woodland, which will help to support future populations of red squirrels. One of the project compartments includes predominantly rowan and shrub species to encourage ground-nesting birds in the surrounding fields and complement existing scrub habitat. Located less than one mile from Sanquhar, the woodland also has the potential to become a valued local nature space, providing opportunities for people to enjoy and connect with nature for years to come.

FAQs
How do you ensure your sponsorship projects deliver on their impact objectives?
Quality assurance is crucial to avoid greenwashing and misuse of nature funding. With 55 years of combined experience, we've created guidelines to ensure projects achieve their impact goals:
Site visits to assess woodland health and stocking
We visit these woodlands during the establishment years to ensure proper management and tree planting. If development is unsatisfactory, we will work with the land manager to correct it.
Collaboration with trusted partners
We create high-integrity woodlands by collaborating with dedicated farmers, tenants, land managers, and foresters who have a proven track record of success.
Incentivisation through staggered payments
We incentivise effective woodland management by staggering payments, with the initial payment after planting and a second payment after a successful year-5 site visit, based on sponsorship sales.
