Whitton Wood
Whitton Wood
Connecting two fragmented ancient Oakwoods, this woodland will provide habitat for rare birds whilst preserving historically significant monuments. It is an excellent option for individuals and organisations that don’t need to purchase carbon credits to support their sustainability strategy but still want to play a role in nature’s comeback.

About the woodland
This woodland extends the wildlife corridor upstream and alleviates flooding in the River Coquet. Native trees and shrubs have been planted naturally along the streams to reflect the historical landscape. The site holds cultural significance, with ancient holloways and Neolithic cup and ring marks on standing stones in the vicinity.
Curlews, lapwings, woodcock, and snipe have bred here for over 60 years; curlews and lapwings are red-listed. Nearby soils support wax cap fungi, signalling well-managed, undisturbed land.
Supported by EWCO and sponsors, the new planting preserves heritage while protecting young trees with fencing and guards.

FAQs
How do you ensure your sponsorship projects deliver on their impact objectives?
Quality assurance is crucial to avoid greenwashing and misuse of nature funding. With 55 years of combined experience, we've created guidelines to ensure projects achieve their impact goals:
Site visits to assess woodland health and stocking
We visit these woodlands during the establishment years to ensure proper management and tree planting. If development is unsatisfactory, we will work with the land manager to correct it.
Collaboration with trusted partners
We create high-integrity woodlands by collaborating with dedicated farmers, tenants, land managers, and foresters who have a proven track record of success.
Incentivisation through staggered payments
We incentivise effective woodland management by staggering payments, with the initial payment after planting and a second payment after a successful year-5 site visit, based on sponsorship sales.
